In-Home Behavior Modification for Reactivity and Aggression –
Dog Training in Wake Forest

Fear is a common motivator for reactive and aggressive dogs. There might be a different underlying emotion, such as frustration or excitement. When dogs feel threatened or unsure, the natural response will be to fight, flight or freeze. When dogs are over-excited, they bark, growl and lunge on the leash. Most dogs will try to put as much distance between themselves and the threat; if the threat remains, they will turn to reactivity or submit. Other dogs are confident pack leaders and will turn first to aggression.
Resource guarding is possessive aggression that is triggered by “fear of loss.” Most common forms of this behavior include growling when someone approaches their food bowl while the dog is eating. They may growl, show teeth or even snap at a person that approaches their bed or approaches them when they have a bone or a toy.
Audrey’s Barkyard offers a 6-week intensive course that will give your dog, and you, the skills, tools, obedience, and impulse control that will help you keep your dog calm when their triggers appear. You will learn to successfully interpret your dog’s body language, interrupt the fixation on the arousal item and change the behavior through your newly acquired leadership style.
The one-on-one training sessions with your trainer are one-hour sessions weekly for six weeks at your home, as well as public areas such as parks and stores. Including in this package is a Herm Sprenger prong collar, weekly personalized lesson plans and review sheets to practice in between training sessions.

Trainer Mark Herrmann started learning about dog behavior at an early age. After observing his friend and his father training their hunting dogs on retrieving and obedience, Mark was amazed and hooked! Since Mark started in dog training, he has owned and operated a board and train business for many years, as well as working in the corporate hospitality industry.
Mark has studied under top-notch professional dog trainers over the years. Pat Nolan, founder of Tactical Directional Canine Systems, worked with Mark to help him learn advanced handling and obedience skills with one of Mark’s Labrador Retrievers, “Reno”. This dog placed in several competitions and was titled by the AKC as Field Champion and Master in Obedience.
Mark is best known as a dog trainer that nurtures the human-canine bond!
